CHHS Names Leadership Fellow for Partner Engagement, Diversity and Health Equity

Today, the College of Health and Human Services announced a newly created college leadership fellow position that will support the expansion of partner engagement efforts, with an emphasis on health equity as well as coordination of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access issues. Kent Guion, professor of public health, will serve on the college’s leadership team as a CHHS Leadership Fellow for Partner Engagement, Diversity and Health Equity.
In this role, he will identify and develop strategic partnerships, as well as monitor and facilitate initiatives and support activities related to diversity, equity and inclusion. Specific duties include chairing the CHHS Globalization, Culture and Diversity Committee; served on the CHHS Advancement Council; and continued exploration and development of strategic partnerships, especially those advancing health justice. Dr. will remain. Guion on faculty responsibilities for teaching, research and service within the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences.
Dr. Guion served as UNCW’s inaugural chief diversity officer from 2015-20. Prior to this appointment, he served as vice president for diversity and inclusion at Georgia Regents University and Georgia Regents Hospital; interim dean of their College of Allied Health Sciences; and associate dean for student, faculty and community activities. She received her MD and MA specializing in exercise physiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a fellowship in clinical epidemiology and general primary care at Duke University Medical Center. Her professional interests include the areas of cultural competition, physical activity and public health, and implementing solutions to health disparities.
