Children to cash in on business ideas at Lincoln Children’s Business Fair

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN)-Young people in the Lincoln area have the opportunity to renew their creative muscles and business mindsets as they develop a brand, create a product, build a marketing strategy, and then opens for customers at a one -day market on Saturday, May 14th.

“Think of a farmers market or craft fair, the only difference is that every business and product sold is made, owned, and operated by a 5-17 year old,” says Zach Harsin , co-founder of Acton Academy Lincoln, hosted the event. “The purpose of the event is simply to provide a platform for young people to experience the power of entrepreneurship for themselves.”

The public is invited to attend, but be prepared. Every business charges real money for real products or services. According to Harsin, most businesses borrow from their parents which they pay from their income from the fair.

“They learned about profit margin, cost of sales, sales, marketing, and many other weird lessons they wouldn’t have learned without doing the work themselves,” he said. according to Harsin. “The hard lesson comes when the product isn’t priced right or as desirable as they think. They may lose money, but it’s better to learn the lessons now, then when they’re older and the stakes higher. ”

The business fair was presented at Acton Academy Lincoln and was held in conjunction with the grand opening of Camp Sonshine on their new Shiloh campus located at 2260 W Wittstruck Rd, Roca, NE.

The event will feature a classic car show, bounce house, adult maker market, and 75+ young entrepreneurs representing more than 50 businesses. Booth applications are closed, but the public is invited to participate in the fun from 1-3 pm at Camp Sonshine-Shiloh and is encouraged to be ready to shop.

“We just want to give a real-world experience to the young people of Lincoln and inspire them with business stories at a young age,” Harsin said. “And to take the opportunity to do this event with Camp Sonshine to celebrate their beautiful new Shiloh Campus is just an added bonus.”
