 Crews put out ‘massive fire’ at Darlington County scrap metal recycling business


DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Fire crews from across Pee Dee put out a “huge fire” Friday at a scrap recycling business in Darlington County.

Firefighters responded around 9 a.m. Friday at the Darlington Shredding on Steel Mill Road, according to the Darlington County Fire District. No one was injured and only limited damage to the operations of the businesses. The crew remained on the scene for several hours.

In addition to the DCFD, firefighters from Darlington City, Hartsville, Palmetto Rural, Sardis-Timmonsville, Howe Springs and Cheraw helped control and extinguish the fire. DCFD also thanked Darlington County E911, emergency management, EMS, and the detention and sheriff’s office for their assistance.

The American Red Cross also responded by providing food and drink to firefighters, the DCFD said.
