Even in Travel and Tourism, This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Even under the umbrella of travel and tourism, there is a need to destroy it.

Now, let me preface this by saying that I’m totally looking forward to attacking passive aggressive – OK, very aggressive – comments. You want to call me a boomer; You’d think I’d tell people to leave my yard, blah, blah, blah.

But this is why we don’t have fancy things.

Last year, Six Flags introduced an add-on to its season park pass. For an additional $ 80, a patron can add an unlimited meal plan – well, no limit defined as two meals a day, one snack and unlimited drinks.

This past week, Six Flags dropped the promotion.

The reason?

A TikTok user created a video showing others how to play the system, a video that was copied and shared with others on the social media site. The user, known as the “Six Flags Scoundrel,” basically demonstrated how he would take advantage of his proximity to a Six Flags park, purchased a $ 200 season pass, added an $ 80 unlimited meal plan and was shown how he would get $ 2,000 worth of food in full. course of less than a year.

Six Flags was caught, realizing it had lost money on the deal and ended the promotion. Six Flags CEO Selim Bassoul said it is also creating a longer line of food service locations in parks.

“They ruined the experience for someone who entered a day ticket with their family … who paid a lot of money to arrive … now they have 45 minutes to an hour to wait to eat while those others. people are staring at the $ 80 line for the entire season, ”he said in a quarterly earnings conference call.

Nindot.

Gosh, that TikTok user should be proud of himself.

Now, let me say this about social media – I love it, with an asterisk. I think it can be informative, funny, inspiring and informative. But it can also be destructive and sadly full of misinformation.

I wouldn’t say that this TikTok user falls into the last category as if he was a QAnon disciple promising John F. Kennedy Jr.

But, let’s face it – “Six Flags Scoundrel” ruined it for everyone. I thought you could call this another travel hack or shortcut, but, really, who has benefited from it? That’s a TikTok user? Maybe some of the others? And what’s the point of making more video if he needs to know that it’s finally going to return to Six Flags and that it’s the end result?

I might be it, but I don’t see the whole point.

I can only say, that’s why we don’t have fancy things.
