Google has announced that it will replace the Google Pay app with Google Wallet, using it for mobile payments as well as storing things like your boarding pass, reward cards, and more.
It can also be used to store items that link to vaccination cards, tickets, government IDs, and also your car keys, this is what Apple primarily does with their Wallet app.
If you save your boarding pass for a flight in Google Wallet, it will notify you of delays and gate changes. If you go to a concert, you will receive a notification on your phone in advance, reminding you of your saved tickets.
The wallet also works with other Google apps – for example if you ride the bus to see a friend and look up directions on Google Maps, your transit card and balance will appear along the route. If you are missing the fare, you can tap and add more. We also give you full control over how you use the items in your wallet to make these experiences possible; for example, the personal information on your COVID vaccine pass is stored on your device and should never be shared without your permission, even with Google.
