RICHMOND – The Richmond Lions Club is offering a free health fair to be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of Richmond United Methodist Church, located at 112 S. Sugar St., Richmond.

“Our health fair is open to all ages,” commented Larry Neptune, a member of the Lions Club who explained what providers are there.

Neptune said club President Ken Miser, for example, will conduct vision screenings, using the club’s Welch Allyn SpotVision Screener, a hand-held device that enables good vision screening. aw.

Collections and donations enabled the purchase of an estimated $ 8,000 worth of equipment five years ago. It is used to screen school children.

In just a few seconds the equipment can check if a person has farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, gaze (measurement of eye alignment), anisometropia (uneven refractive power) or anisocoria (uneven size of the student). A screening is done quickly and vision problems can be detected immediately. Individuals with perceived problems are advised to follow up with an optometrist.

Saturday’s health fair will also include strength exercises that Neptune demonstrates and the possibility of sitting in a chair.

Detailed literature will also be provided so attendees can perform low-impact exercises in the comfort of their homes, according to Neptune.

The Jefferson County Department of Health is on hand to perform blood pressure readings, pulse oxygen levels and BMI calculations. BMI is an acronym for body mass index, which is a measure of body fat based on height and weight available to adult men and women. The department also has literature to distribute.

Another feature of the health fair is the station set up by EzFresh Meals of Wintersville, which offers nutrition information and a store menu.
