The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) returned, but this time with a trend. Among the 8 -day events is a runway show, showcasing the finalists of the Design for the Stars competition.
One word to accurately describe the unique look that fell on the runway is “gigagged.” Each outfit excites everyone and tries very hard not to shed a tear in the pure joy of fashion creativity and details.
The runway blooms with a variety of fashion trends, sometimes surprising us when we are taken into a universe where style is the norm. Here are some of our favorite trends:
A golden rule when it comes to gowns: you can’t go wrong with ruffles. The designers knew this as they sent out beautiful ruffle-shaped runaway gowns, giving us a healthy dose of both dramatic talent and a hundred percent camp.
Royalty remains a theme that illuminates the runway. From crowns to modern interpretations of tailcoats, the London Regency era came alive at the AMVCA 8 Fashion show. It’s almost like a London-Lagos fashion week crossover.
Anyone who says hair should be worn only on the head has definitely not seen Yemi Alade look sexy and confident as she walks around wearing a black gown with red braids. In changing the hair account, Lush caught our eye in bright pink gowns and intricate hair masterpieces.
The next time you hear someone say, “That runway is closed for fashion forces,” they might mean the AMVCA 8 Fashion show. Aside from the discomfort, corsets are so widely known for the beauty they add to a dress, giving the body shape more shape.
Along with the brightly colored gowns are the corsets, which are a staple in the look of some designers.
Who is in the garden? No one, other than beautiful gowns with bold floral accessories and floral print suit. The designers gave us what could only be called a “spring meets glam” moment, and it’s safe to say we live for it.
If there’s one lesson to be learned from the AMVCA runway, it’s the rocks ’unique ability to transform a standard look into a tall and expensive one.
Stoning clothes when done incorrectly can be detrimental, but these designers make it work, giving a look of luxury through their clothes.
Not flamboyant enough to describe the nature of runway sleeves. It looks like the designers took the saying, “Go big or go home,” to heart as the over-the-top but stylish sleeves stole the show.
