AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA)-Texas Panhandle Centers launched this new mobile wellness clinic today, showing in the casing how they bring quick mental health care to those in rural Panhandle.
The mobile clinic is new, trailer attached to a truck that will make the tour of the area otherwise possible without treatment.
The goal of the Panhandle Center is to put mental health care in the same light as physical health care.
“We want mental health to look the same in vain as physical health. Mental health is health,” said Sara Northrup, program manager at Texas Panhandle Centers. “We want people to care. look at it the same way, it should be the same for people who go to the doctor to get help with a cold or flu. Treatment is treatment. We want it to be available to everyone. ”
The centers also want to help provide services to those who do not have access to them.
“It will travel across the Texas Panhandle to more than 21 counties. We can bring access to mental health care to everyone especially in rural communities where people have difficulty accessing services, ”Sara Northrup said.
The centers say people in rural areas lack proper facilities for all health care services, and are worried that they will not be able to get medical treatment because they will have to drive far to Amarillo for them. .
“We really care about the people in our rural communities,” Sara Northrup said. “They have difficulty accessing not only physical health care but also mental health care and so we want to bring services to people instead of sitting here in Amarillo and waiting to they will come to us. “
