 USFL Week 7: Stars-Gamblers top plays


After an action -packed weekend, Week 7 at USFL season ends on Sunday with a matchup between Philadelphia Stars (3-3) and the Houston Gamblers (1-5).

The Gamblers are in the middle of a losing streak and are no strangers to grief, dropping their last two games in the final game of the game.

Meanwhile, Philly has already started things, winning two of its last three. And the Stars have a little more to play as well: A win on Sunday night could wipe Houston out of playoff contention.

Philadelphia Stars against Houston Gamblers

Houston was well aware of the stakes and struck early with an aggressive defensive approach.

The Gamblers rushed Case Cookus with a storm of pressure, which hit him to force a shaking fall. The pass was picked up and taken to Donald Payne Jr.’s home in Houston.

With four minutes left before halftime, Stars Matt Colburn III rushed for a 4-yard touchdown, putting Philly in the lead, 13-10.

But Houston was able to squeeze another touchdown before the end of the half. Kenji Bahar completed a 6-yard pass to Brandon Barnes for a TD, putting the Gamblers back 17-13 just 17 seconds before the break.

After both teams scored on their initial third-quarter drives, the Gamblers put up a seven-play, 70-yard drive, which improved their lead to 24-13 thanks to a 9-yard touchdown run by Mark Thompson .

The Stars tried to respond back, heading into the bottom fourth, but the Gamblers tore up and stopped them.

By the end of the third, the Gamblers led 24-13.
